Save Money on Medicare
You may qualify for help with Medicare costs through:
- Extra Help Program – lowers your Part D prescription costs
- Medicare Savings Programs – may cover your Part B premium
For 2026, you may qualify if:
- Monthly income is $2,015 or less (single) or $2,725 or less (married)
- Income limits include the $20 disregard
- Savings are $18,900 or less (single) or $36,100 or less (married)
- Asset limits include $1,500 per person for burial expenses
- Your home, car, and personal items don’t count toward savings
- Call your local Area Agency on Aging to speak with a VICAP counselor and get help applying. The only way to know for sure is to apply!
Stay Healthy with Medicare Preventive Services

Medicare covers free preventive services to help you stay healthy, including:
- Screenings for cancer, heart disease, diabetes, depression, HIV, and more
- Vaccines (COVID, flu, pneumonia, hepatitis B)
- Nutrition therapy, obesity and alcohol counseling, and smoking cessation
- Annual “Wellness” visits and “Welcome to Medicare” checkup
Ask your doctor which services apply to you.
Your Yearly “Wellness” Visit
If you’ve had Medicare Part B for over 12 months, you qualify for a free yearly Wellness Visit. It includes:
- A Health Risk Assessment
- Review of your health, prescriptions, and medical history
- Advice on staying healthy and preventing disease
- A cognitive checkup to screen for memory or thinking issues
- Substance use risk screening and support if needed
Note: You pay nothing if your provider accepts Medicare. But if extra tests are done that aren’t fully covered, you may pay a portion.
